Unidos Por La Música is a series I began using the funds I received from the City of Austin’s Live Music Fund in 2023, with the goal of creating a space that celebrates and elevates Latin music and culture in Austin. What started as a single event has grown into an ongoing platform that brings together musicians, DJs, dancers, artists, and local vendors to create a shared cultural experience rooted in cumbia and regional Hispanic music. Through this series, I’ve been able to showcase underrepresented artists, many of whom are deeply connected to the city’s identity but are often overlooked or underpaid, while making it a priority to compensate performers fairly, often above recommended standards.

The events have consistently drawn over 300 attendees and have been recognized in local media, including KUTX, helping expand the reach and visibility of the project. With continued support, including being a two-time City of Austin grant-supported initiative, Unidos Por La Música has grown into something much larger than I initially envisioned.

 

At its core, it reflects my commitment to building inclusive, bilingual experiences that are accessible to both English and Spanish-speaking communities, as well as visitors to the city. By blending live music, dance, and cultural expression, the series creates an environment where people can connect, celebrate, and experience the influence and resilience of Latin culture in a meaningful and authentic way.
